Watching American Diplocrisy in Ethiopia By Alemayehu G Mariam April 29, 2013 Prof. Al Mariam Diplomacy by hypocrisy is “diplocrisy” Edmund Burke, the British statesman and philosopher, said “Hypocrisy can afford to be magnificent in its promises, for never intending to go beyond promise, it costs nothing.” We’ve heard many promises on human rights in Africa from President Obama and his Administration over the past four years.  “We will work diligently with Ethiopia to ensure that strengthened democratic institutions and open political dialogue become a reality for the Ethiopian people… We will work for the release of jailed scholars, activists, and opposition party leaders… We align ourselves with men and women around the world who struggle for the right to speak their minds, to choose their leaders, and to be treated with dignity and respect…. Africa’s future belongs to its young people… We’re going to keep helping empower African youth… Africa doesn’t need strongmen, it needs strong institutions. We support strong and sustainable democratic governments…. America will be more responsible in extending our hand. Aid is not an end in itself… [Dictatorship] is not democracy, [it] is tyranny, and now is the time for it to end… America is watching…” All empty promises and cheap talk.  Last week, the U.S. State Department released its annual Human Rights Report for 2013. In his remarks launching that report, Secretary of State John Kerry announced …[These] reports show  brave citizens around the world and those who would abuse them that America is watching… So anywhere that human rights are under threat, the United States will proudly stand up, unabashedly, and continue to promote greater freedom, greater openness, and greater opportunity for all people. And that means speaking up when those rights are imperiled. It means providing support and training to those who are risking their lives every day so that their children can enjoy more freedom. It means engaging governments at the highest levels and pushing them to live up to their obligations to do right by their people...

( ጌታቸው ረዳ ለአብርሃ ደስታ “የትግራይ ህዝብ ዝምታ ሲተረጎም” ከሰጠው መልስ የተወሰደ :: ሙሉውን ከድረፁ ያንብቡ )… ሁለት ዓይነት የትግራይ ምሁራኖች አሉ። አንደኛው ቡድን ወያኔን በግልጽ የሚቃወሙ፤ ነገር ግን “ዞር አሉ አልሸሹም” ዓይነት አስተሳሰብ ያላቸው በተዘዋዋሪም ሆነ በቀጥታ ከሚያሞቃቸው “የጎሳ ቀፎ” መውጣት የማይፈልጉ ናቸው (ትንሽ ስታካቸው እና ክርክሩ ጠበቅ ሲልባቸውና ሲበሳጩ ወያኔነታቸው በቀላሉ የሚነበብባቸው ማለት ነው)። ወያኔ መቃወም ብቻ አያስፈልግም፤ መልካሙን ነገርም አውሱለት፤ እየተሰራ ያለው ሕንጻ፤ሆቴልና ፋብሪካ አወድሱለት ወዘተ…. የሚሉ ናቸው (ሂትለር ጀርመንን በኢንዱስትሪ በር ከፍቶላታል እና ስለ ሂትለር በጐነት አውሩ አንደማለት)። አንዲህ አይነት የተምታታ አቋም ያለቸው የትግራይ ምሁራኖች ብዙዎቹ ቢሆኑም ለምሳሌ ለምጥቀስ አንደ ዶ/ር ገላውዴዎስ አርአያ እና ዶ/ር ሃይሉ መንገሻ የመሳሰሉት መጥቀስ ይቻላል። ሌላው ቡድን ደግሞ በግልጽ የወያኔን ፖሊሲ አቅፎ ደግፎ “እልል” እያሉ የወያኔ ፕሮፓጋንዳ እየተቀበሉ የሚተገብሩ እና የጥፋት መልእክተኛ የነበረው የመለስ ዜናዊ አወዳሾች አንደ እነ ዶ/ር ተወልደብርሃን ገ/አግዚአብሔር (የደራሲው የስብሐት ገ/እግዚአብሔር ወንድም)http://youtu.be/f75zPblWSiI የሕዝቡን መከራ የሚያራዝሙ፤ጠባብ ብሔረተኛነት ሕሊናቸውን ያሰወራቸው “ዑውራን” ምሁራን ይገኙበታል። አነኚህ እና የመሳሰሉ የትግራይ ምሁራን 1ኛ የሕዝብቻው ስቃይ እያዩም ቢሆን ባድርባይ ጸባይ እና ወያኔ በለገሰላቸው ምቾት ታውረው ተባበሪ የሆኑ ናቸው።

የኢትዮጵያ ህዝብ እውነተኛ ምርጫና የቀልድ ምርጫ ምን ማለት እንደ ሆነ ጠንቅቆ የሚያውቅ መሆኑን በ1997 አም ባደረገው አለምን ባስደመመ ሂደት አስመስክርዋል::
ወያኔና ጀሌዎቹ ግን ዛሬም ሊማሩ አይችሉምና ደግመው ደጋግመው ህዝባችን ሊያሞኙት ይሻሉ በ2002 አ.ም ምርጫ ቦርድ ከሚባለው ሎሊያችው ጋር ሆነው ድምጹን ሰርቀውና አሰርቀው አሽንፍዋል አሽነፍን ብለው አይናቸውን በጨው አጠበው ጨፍር ብለው አደባባይ አስወጡት፤ በጥቃቅን ስም ባደራጁቸው እበላ ባዮች ታጅበውም በአደባባይ አላገጡ በህዝብ ቁስልም ላይ ጨው ነሰነሱ ህዝብም ታዝቦ ዝም አለ ዘንድሮስ?

ዘንድሮ የተለየው ነገር ተቃዋሚዎች ተባብረው 33 የሚሆኑት በአንድ ላይ ቆሙ ከምርጫው በፊት ጥያቄዎችን አንስተው እንደራደርም ብለው ጠየቁ ትእቢተኛው ወያኔም እንደልማዱ አሻፈርኝ የት ልትደርሱ አላቸው ትኩረታቸውን በሙሉ በየቤቱ እየዞሩ ካርድ እንዲወስድ ያስፈራሩት ጀመር የፈራ ወሰደ ያልፈራም ሳይወስድ ቀረ ይህንንም ህዝብ በትዝብት ተመለከተ ፤ካድሬዎቹም ሆነ አለቆቻቸው ወያኔዎች እሁንም ህዝቡን ንቀውታል ምን ያመጣል በሚል ትእቢት ከ99.6 % ወደ 100፥ በመለወጥ ለማሸነፍና ለመጨፈርና ለማስጨፈር ዝግጅታቸውን ማጠናቅቅ ላይ ብቻ አደረጉ።

Asian countries in the global south, like India, China, and South Korea, simply did not have enough unused, suitable land to meet the increasing need for food for their people. Some European countries were in the same position. Arid countries in the Middle East, like Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait, may have wealth from oil, but they were large importers of food and have little or diminishing arable land. Underground water aquifers were already being depleted in efforts to irrigate existing food crops.  Soaring populations, decreasing available land, environmental degradation and lessening confidence in access to adequate imports caused many governments to search beyond their borders for new ways to ensure a supply of food for the future. At the same time, speculators, investors and multinational agri-businesses began to see food as a high-profit commodity which could be profitable like oil, minerals and other natural resources.

He said that to show solidarity with the people of Berlin after the East Germans with the approval of the Soviet Union erected the Berlin Wall to prevent their captive citizens from fleeing to the west. The passage I like the most is when he said “Two thousand years ago, the proudest boast was civis romanus sum ["I am a Roman citizen"]. Today, in the world of freedom, the proudest boast is "Ich bin ein Berliner!"... All free men, wherever they may live, are citizens of Berlin, and therefore, as a free man, I take pride in the words "Ich bin ein Berliner!"

Editor Woubshet Taye taken to remote prison By CPJ April 23, 2013 Editor Woubshet Taye and journalist Reeyot Alemu remain behind bars as 'terrorists' - one crude evidence of the mockery of justice in Ethiopia (Graphics: Ethiomedia) New York — The Committee to Protect Journalists protests Ethiopian authorities' transfer of independent newspaper editor Woubshet Taye to a remote prison several hours away from his family's home. Woubshet has been imprisoned since June 2011 on vague terrorism charges that CPJ has determined to be unsubstantiated. "Moving detainees to prisons far from their families is a tactic long used by governments that wish to not only further penalize the individuals but to punish their loved ones as well," said CPJ Africa Advocacy Coordinator Mohamed Keita. "Woubshet Taye should not be in prison at all, never mind held in one so far from his family. We call on Ethiopian authorities to return him to a facility closer to his home, and to reconsider the unjust conviction that put him behind bars in the first place." Authorities on Friday transferred Woubshet from Kilinto Prison, outside Addis Ababa, to a detention facility in the town of Ziway, about 83 miles southeast of the capital, according to local journalists and the U.S.-based exile-run AwrambaTimes.com. The authorities did not provide a reason for the transfer. Local journalists told CPJ that Woubshet's wife and four-year-old son would now have to travel more than four hours to reach the prison to visit the journalist. Woubshet, former deputy editor of the now-defunct independent weekly Awramba Times and a recipient of Human Rights Watch's Hellman/Hammett Award, was sentenced in January 2012 to a 14-year prison sentence on charges lodged under Ethiopia's broad anti-terrorism law. The journalist was arrested a couple of weeks after he published a column in Awramba Times that critically assessed the ruling party's performance in its two decades of rule. The paper was known for its bold coverage of local issues. The U.N. Special Rapporteur on torture and other forms of cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, said last month that Ethiopia had violated Woubshet's rights by failing to address his allegations of being tortured in custody, despite Ethiopia's commitment to "uphold the highest standard of human rights." CPJ research shows that other states that have imprisoned journalists have used the tactic of moving journalists to prisons far from their homes as a means of punishing them and their families. Cuba, for example, placed journalists in prisons hundreds of miles from their families at the height of the Black Spring crackdown in 2003, according to CPJ research. Reeyot Alemu: Ethiopia's Jailed Truth Teller By Nina Strochlic, The Daily Beast April 20, 2013 Reeyot Alemu She’s spent the last 669 days languishing behind the bars of a notoriously brutal prison, but Ethiopian journalist Reeyot Alemu has not been forgotten. On Tuesday, the 32-year-old female dissident was honored with the 2013 UNESCO-Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize. In announcing the prize, the jury hailed her “exceptional courage, resistance and commitment to freedom of expression.” But no amount of international awards and public outcry have succeeded in gaining her freedom—and her medical condition is reportedly deteriorating. After recently undergoing surgery for a breast tumor, she was immediately sent back to the Kality Prison with no downtime for recovery, according to reports. Last year, the International Women’s Media Foundation bestowed a Courage in Journalism Award on Alemu in absentia for her “refusal to self-censor in a place where that practice in standard, and her unwillingness to apologize for truth-telling, even though contrition could win her freedom.” At the ceremony, the presenters read a note from Alemu that had been smuggled out of prison. “For EPRDF [Ethiopia’s ruling party], journalists must be propaganda machines,” she wrote.

                                                                                                         አምባሳደሯ በሁለት ወያኔዎች ታጅባ ስለ ፓስፖርትና፣ ስለ አባይ ግድብ ቦንድ መናገር ከመጀመሯ የኖርዌይ ኢትዮጵያውያን “የለም የለም ኢትዮጵያ ውስጥ በግፍ ስለታሰሩ፣ በዘራቸው ምክንያት በሀገራቸው እየተፈናቀሉ ስላሉት ወገኖቻችን በቅድሚያ ጥያቄ አለን” በማለት አምባሳደሯን ሰንገው ይይዟታል።
ስብሰባው የወያኔዋ ተወካይ ባሰበችው መንገድ መሄድ አልቻለም። ተረበሸ።
